Semiotics
Semiotics means the study of what symbols communicate, looking further in to the meaning of something and what it communicates. An example of this would be looking into the mise en scene and what different things symbolise, in movies, tv and media. We use semiotics to communicate a meaning, attitude, belief or feeling through subtlties, like objects, facial expressions, colourings, sequences etc. etc. they all convey a hidden meaning.
For this task we are asked to analyse and connote the semiotics in adverts and posters. Here are my observations.
This chanel advert is being promoted by Brad Pitt who is a highly known wealthy and handsome actor. This helps promote Hugo Boss as people are likely to buy something if its advertised by a celebrity. It also hints that you could be just like Brad if you bought the perfume. He is also wearing a suit and the picture has been taken in a holiday penthouse, this further connotes wealth and shows that you may be viewed as wealthy by others and others will associate wealth and popularity when smelling hugo boss perfume!

This Ford advert shows a key with a world? skyline engraved in it. The words say 'the city is in your hands' but before seeing the words you associate the sykline on the key with endless possibilities. It is suggesting that the car can travel far and is very reliable. Car adverts need to promote reliability as a car is half a lifetime responsibility and you want to be promised. It is very clever advert as it shows that the keys (which control the car) means you have endless possibilities.

This is a poster of the latest Jurassic world movie. There is a lot that is connoted in it. Firstly, the light through the dinosaurs eyes, this symbolises something new, something appearing. The main character is also holding fire, this tells us they might be hunting or maybe its the last film and they finally do something about the dinosaurs. It says 'the epic conclusion of the jurrasic era' which evidences the points I made, its coming to an end. The light in the eyes could also symbolise the light at the end of the tunnel. The colour yellow usually symbolises hope and happiness, which it could also be doing in this poster. They are inside of a circle which could represent a portal. It also looks like a cave and is meant to represent a cave, but unless you've seen the film you wouldn't catch that. The lady at the tops' hair is blowing which suggests action and fast pace movement. The characters are centred in their appearance, the people at the bottom were in the original movies and the people at the top have featured in the newer ones.
